TAKEAWAYS
PROS
- Baltimore has quality depth in its secondary. The front office says it is sticking with its highest paid player, cornerback Jimmy Smith, despite Smith unlikely to have a starting role. Tavon Young also earns more than fellow cornerback Marlon Humphrey and may not start. While the price of the depth doesn't make sense versus the cap, no one will be complaining about that on Sundays.
CONS
- No NFL offense has less play-making pass-catchers than Baltimore. Wide receiver Willie Snead looks like a bona fide star next to the players around him --yet he had just 664 yards for the Ravens all of last season. It doesn't bode well for the team, who aren't giving second-year quarterback Lamar Jackson a chance of success if they don't address wide receiver early - and then often - in the draft. There's going to be receivers on the board when the team picks 22nd overall, so whether it's a value pick or not, the team must take a wide receiver.
- The Ravens surrendered the fewest yards and second-fewest points to teams in 2018. They rode those stats all the way to the play-offs where a horrendous offensive performance gave the team no chance. The team then lost important defensive pieces in free agency. Linebacker CJ Mosley got one of the off-season's biggest contracts, while aging linebacker Terrell Suggs was a surprise departure from the team. While the two players were integral in last year's dominating defense, the front office can try replace them through this year's deep pass rushing draft class.
