Bears, Packers to kick off 2019 season

The Chicago Bears will host the opening game of 2019 playing against their NFC North rivals, the Green Bay Packers, on Thursday September 5th.

In a break from tradition, the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots will begin their NFL season on Sunday September 8th, and not the usual Thursday spot, the NFL has announced.

The reigning Super Bowl Champion has opened every single season with a Thursday night home game since 2004.

The Kick-off game will mark both the Bears' and NFL's 100th year. It will be the 198th meeting between the NFC North rivals but will mark new head coach Matt LaFleur's first experience of one of the league's most storied rivalries.

The Bears and Packers also played each other in Week 1 last year, ending with one of the top comebacks of Aaron Rodgers’ career. The Packers hold a slight advantage in the all-time series, beating the Bears 96-94-6. They have won 15 out of the last 18 match-ups between the two teams.
