The most distinguished quarterback in Ravens history is done in Baltimore.
Former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco is being traded to the Denver Broncos, per sources informed on the situation. ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the news.
The deal cannot be finalised until the new league year begins in March but the Broncos are expected to rework Flacco's deal. Flacco's contract is currently ca ompletely unguaranteed $18.5 million in 2019, $20.25 million in 2020 and $24.25 in 2021.
Denver was always likely to acquire a quarterback this off-season despite signing Case Kennum - who comes with $10 million dead money if cut - to a two year deal in 2018.
Considering the wide receiver corps, Flacco's new situation is less desirable than other teams he was linked with. The 34-year-old could end up handing the ball off to running back Phillip Lindsay for the year and damage his stock. But new Broncos head coach Vic Fangio spent a season in Baltimore with Flacco, meaning the two are relatively acquainted.
The writing was on the wall for Baltimore's 34-year-old when Baltimore traded up for the younger, more athletic Lamar Jackson in 2018's draft, who took the starting role when Flacco suffered a hip injury in November. Whenthe team lost in the playoffs under Lamar Jackson, head coach John Harbaugh wished Flacco luck but declared the team would move forward without the quarterback.
Flacco finishes his Ravens career with 38,245 passing yards, 212 touchdowns (to 136 interceptions), a 96-67 record, and most importantly, one Super Bowl win.
