Jets' offense starting to look like a threat

Prior to this month's draft, 1SBD's Mark Hogan takes an in-depth look into each team's current projected starters and identifies strengths and lingering team needs after the first waves of free agency.

TAKEAWAYS

PROS

- Having gotten Sam Darnold, Le'Veon Bell and solid pass catchers in New York, the Jets offense finally looks set to create some mismatches under new head coach Adam Gase. The offensive line should be stronger in 2018 after the team traded for Kelechi Osemele. Overall this is an offense to be excited about. The wide receivers provide plenty of versatility and Chris Herndon showed he can be a threat down the stretch last year.

CONS

- Despite a massive contract in 2018, cornerback Trumaine Johnson was not reliable in one-on-one coverage last year. The Jets got Brian Poole on a one-year deal in free agency to put opposite Johnson, but drafting a cornerback high should still be an option.

- The team needs an edge rusher opposite Jordan Jenkins, especially with new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' pressure heavy scheme. The Jets didn't address the position after Anthony Barr renegaded on their free agency deal, so the team must be confident they can address the position in the draft. A number of premier talents will be available fourth overall. But whether New York opts to trade back - they have no second round pick - is another question.
