The Jacksonville Jaguars have a new quarterback.
Quarterback Nick Foles is signing with the Jaguars in a four year, $88 million million deal. Starter Blake Bortles is expected to be released in a corresponding move.
The move - first reported by NFL Media's Mike Garafolo - isn't a surprise. The Jaguars looked set to move on from Bortles after three years in charge and another disappointing campaign. Foles rejoins recently appointed offensive coordinator John DeFilipo, who worked with Foles as Eagles quarterback's coach in 2016.
The quarterback's new contract pays $88 million, with $50.1 million guaranteed and a possible $14 million more in incentives. As Garafolo reports, the money involved may be more than the quarterback market demanded, but the Jaguars see the $22 million a year as "respectable starting quarterback contract" that will ensure Foles' leader status in the locker room.
The signal caller's $22 million average salary pays the same as the $20 million the Eagles owed him this year along with the $2 million the quarterback paid to buy out of the contract in February. Philedelphia announced last week that it would not franchise tag their Super Bowl winning quarterback, despite seeing him as a Top 10-15 signal caller in the league.
