Add Devin McCourty to the growing list of potential New England departures following the season.
Should the New England Patriots win the Super Bowl this weekend, the nine-year veteran has indicated he may step away from the game, saying there would be little left for him to achieve.
"I do look at [retirement]" the 31-year-old safety told Deion Sanders at Super Bowl Opening Night: "If we win this game -- winning with my brother -- I don't know what else I could do that could top that."
If McCourty decides to retire, it would mark off an incredible year for him and his twin brother, Jason. The two became teammates when New England traded for Jason McCourty last year, fulfilling a life-long dream for them and their mother. Jason made headlines after the AFC Championship game when he joked he would "not be a guest" of Devin's at the Super Bowl for the first time in his career.
The two McCourtys combined for two interceptions, two forced fumbles and a touchdown this season, while Devin McCourty was a team captain for his eighth straight year.
If Devin McCourty retires, he could be just one of many long-term Patriots on their way out of Foxsboro. Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores is expected to be announced as the new Miami Dolphins head coach, while star tight end Rob Gronkowski says he plans to think about retirement in the off-season.
But anyone hoping this is Tom Brady's last game is set to be disappointed. The all-time great quarterback was asked about his plans for 2019, telling ESPN's Jeff Darlington there is "zero" chance he walks away from the game after the Super Bowl. Brady's current contract runs through the 2019 season.
