Rams need new O-Line starters to fit in seamlessly

At a glance: Change on the offensive line could affect Los Angeles' offense as much as anything else in 2019, with next year's success perhaps hinging on it. That said, the news of running back Todd Gurley's arthritis and Los Angeles' subsequent addition of Darrell Henderson in the draft shows a different approach from the Rams backfield will soon be seen, but the "by committee" style should ultimately benefit the team.

Despite the return of offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth - who mulled retirement since the Rams' Super Bowl loss - Los Angeles still lost starters Rodger Saffold and John Sullivan in the off-season. Center Brian Allen and tackle Joseph Noteboom were drafted and groomed to take over their roles this year, so how they hold up with the the increased snaps could have a serious impact on Los Angeles' 2019 season. Seeing as this was the plan all along the team must feel comfortable, but it's worth noting because 1) it's the only major personnel from last season's electrifying offense and 2) the Rams had the same five O-Line starters for every game last year, per Pro Football Reference.

Of course running back Todd Gurley's workload will be a change, but considering most smart teams are using a committee approach, the addition of third-round selection Darrell Henderson to the backfield should mean the Rams don't miss a step if Gurley's condition doesn't deteriorate.

With edge rusher Ndamukong Suh not being kept on, outside linebackers Dante Fowler Jr and Clay Matthews will be ones to watch. Fowler needs to prove he wasn't a flash in the plan after being acquired from the Jaguars last year, and Matthews needs to show he can be effective - despite his age - in a part time role. The two will benefit from a strong supporting cast, including defensive player of the year Aaron Donald.
